Job Description
Summary: Abbeville Fiber is seeking a Machine Operator for the planer mill. This is a full-time position offering competitive pay and a full benefits package.
Essential Duties:
- Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting
apparatus. - Monitors kiln controls for proper operation and make corrections as needed.
Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded
pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transports load to designated area. - Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
- Inventories materials on work floor, and supplies workers with materials as needed.
- Lubricates truck, recharges batteries, and fills fuel tank.
- Assists in inspecting machinery and identifying the needs for repairs and
maintenance. - Keeps record of inventory
- Assists in housekeeping and clean-up activities as needed.
- Assists in picking up lumber and other materials due to spills.
- Keeps material stacked evenly, safely and in an organized manner.
- Stages and removes kiln charges at appropriate times and check moisture content to
maintain product quality. - Changes out kilns as required using forklift, opens and closes kiln doors using
designated mechanical devices, and operate wenches and cables to maneuver lumber
on tracks. - Ensures the dry kilns and surrounding areas are kept clean of debris, sawdust, ash and
unnecessary equipment. - Operates various heavy-duty equipment such as forklift, front end loader, and skid
steer loader. - Observe and follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
