Job Purpose

The Accountant III serves as a technical expert in cost accounting with a primary focus on SAP Material Ledger functionalities. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and optimization of SAP processes to support business objectives. The position provides leadership and guidance to staff accountants, drives continuous improvement in accounting operations, and acts as the key resource for advanced SAP troubleshooting and analysis. By leveraging deep SAP expertise, the Accountant III delivers timely, accurate, and insightful financial data to enable informed decision-making across the organization.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Responsible for the full cycle of accounting activities, from preparation to reconciliation.
  • Maintain and reconcile SAP Material Ledger for accurate cost accounting.
  • Review, research, and resolve complex accounting issues; initiate corrections as needed.
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and financial reporting.
  • Ensure that all reconciling items and outstanding issues are identified, investigated, and resolved promptly.
  • Analyze significant inventory related accounts and provide variance explanations.
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to material cost adjustments and other transactions.
  • Develop and maintain a system of internal controls to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Generate and analyze SAP reports for management and executive review.
  • Monitor and analyze variances in material costs and inventory valuations.
  • Assist with aged GR/IR account analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure all accounting processes adhere to GAAP and company policies.
  • Schedule and assist with the annual budget process for assigned functions.
  • Support internal and external audits, including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance testing.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff accountants on SAP functionalities.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for SAP troubleshooting and advanced queries.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.

What do I need to be successful?

  • 6+ years’ professional accounting experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of plant manufacturing environment and processes.
  • Strong analytical, math, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable with change and able to adjust quickly to new priorities.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet regular deadlines.
  • Ability to operate a computer and supporting software packages, including the ability to satisfactorily perform all SAP tasks associated with this role.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other similar designation desirable

Work Environment

  • This position will work at home and in our Nashville office on a hybrid schedule
  • Must live within a commutable distance to Nashville or willing to relocate to the greater Nashville area
