Humboldt Sawmill Company is looking for Clean-Up worker at the Merch to join our Team in Scotia, CA . This is a non-exempt position, the hourly rate for this position is $24.87, it includes full benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K matching and life insurance. Responsibilities

Clean Up at the Merch, maintains Merch areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition, and assists in other areas of the sawmill as needed while performing work in a safe and productive manner.

  • Maintains designated work areas, as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring they remain clean and free of sawdust, wood chips, bark, wood strips, and other debris.
  • Operates a chainsaw to cut and dispose of scrap lumber and broken logs.
  • Uses hand tools to move sawdust, wood chips, and bark into conveyors, bins, or other designated collection areas.
  • Serves as a backup operator for the Merch when needed.
    • Monitor automatic debarking system
    • Check and clear metal detector to hog
    • Inspects buck saws to check for proper operation
    • Clean log length scanner optics, banner arrays and Photo eyes
  • May manually remove wood strips from transfer chains and transfer them to chipper feed conveyors to maintain material flow and equipment operation.
  • Provides assistance with production, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned to support efficient mill operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • One month of related sawmill and/or planer experience or training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply basic math concepts in a work environment.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to stand; walk; climb stairs or ladders; and reach with hands and arms while working on elevated platforms or accessing machinery at height.
  • The employee must frequently use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate tools, equipment, and controls, and perform repetitive motions such as gripping while separating and pulling lumber.
  • The employee is occasionally required to kneel or crouch when picking up pieces of lumber.
  • The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds, either independently or with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include Close vision (e.g., inspecting machine components); Distance vision (e.g., monitoring operations); Color vision (e.g., identifying wire colors and indicator lights); Peripheral vision; Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
  • The employee is occasionally required to detect odors, such as smoke, gas, or burning materials, which may indicate safety hazards.

 

Work Environment

  •  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration from machinery such as saws, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, including sawdust, lubricants, and welding smoke.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, as well as high, precarious places including catwalks, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
  • The employee is also exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, when working in or around outdoor areas of the facility.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring the consistent use of hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by company policy and OSHA Standards, which may include Safety glasses or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats, and respiratory protection if necessary.
