Founded in 1855, Collins is family-owned and produces softwood and hardwood products at their facilities in Chester, California, Lakeview, Oregon and Kane, Pennsylvania. In Chester, Collins also has the Builders Supply retail hardware and building materials store. Position Summary:

Duties/Responsibilities*:

  • Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on all light and heavy equipment.
  • Use hoists, forklifts, and other mechanical means to lift/move heavy loads and objects.
  • Maintain critical spares and inventory for all rolling stock.
  • Detect developing mechanical issues and conduct preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Utilize the maintenance tracking system to document completed repairs and service.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
  • If lead status is awarded, the individual will act as a functional expert and serve as a point of contact in the area of responsibility; assist the supervisor with daily reports and crew member assignments; provide breaks; and provide training. Additionally, based on the needs of the department/supervisor, leads may be required to maintain inventory levels and coordinate work with vendors and contractors.

Position Requirements: Must meet position requirements to be considered a candidate for this position.

  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Three (3) years as a heavy equipment mechanic preferred.
  • One (1) year of operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Competent welding skills preferred.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Report.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable temperatures and weather conditions. 

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, and a face shield.
