Overview

Humboldt Sawmill Company (HSC) is seeking experienced Millwrights to join their maintenance team based in Scotia, CA! This position is a non exempt position and offers an hourly rate of $38.65 or $43.65 (Level 1 or Journeyman) depending on your experience level. Relocation assistance may be offered!

Responsibilities

The Millwright is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment while adhering to safety and productivity standards. Operates hand tools, machine tools, power tools, forklifts, manlifts, and welding equipment. As a Level 1 or Journeyman, you are expected to perform the work with no supervision or direction.

  • Demonstrates competency in trouble shooting and repairing of pneumatic and hydraulic apparatuses, with a solid understanding of both systems
  • Maintain all material conveying systems according to manufacture’s specifications and company
  • Supports Company preventative maintenance program; works as an integral part of the maintenance
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of
  • Advanced skill level in layout and cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal
  • Effectively communicates with coworkers when notified of
  • Follows all lockout / tagout, hot work permit and confined space procedures and testing machines for restart.
  • Fill line oilers daily
  • Ability to identify potential problems prior to failures
  • Demonstrates solid troubleshooting skills with more complicated maintenance problems providing technical direction to other millwrights as required

 

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year certificate from college or technical school.
    • Or minimum four years related Sawmill experience.
    • Or four years of technical craft training.
    • Or equivalent combination equaling 2,000 hours on the job training and 100 hours classroom time.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines
  • Basic Algebra, Geometry 
  • Licensed Forklift Operator/ Certified Man-Lift Operator a plus
  • Meets the minimum tool requirements
  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, Hot work permits & Equipment Operation
  • Proven ability to follow detailed work instructions, blueprints, and schematics
  • Demonstrates Ability in the following:
    • Advanced understanding of lubrication systems and proper lubrication application
    • Advanced welding skills
    • Advanced oxy-acetylene torch skills
    • Competency in fabrication and construction
    • Properly install and adjust drive and transfer chains
    • Properly change, adjust, and track transfer and drive belts
  • Understanding and proper use of tools and equipment
  • Remove, rebuild, and reinstall cylinders and valves including electrical connections
  • Competency in set-up, installation, and trouble-shooting power transmission systems.
  • Solid knowledge of proper rigging and lifting
  • Solid Knowledge of power transmission systems including ability to properly align components
  • Set-up and check bearings for proper operation

  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, either independently or with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision (e.g., inspecting machine components); Distance vision (e.g., monitoring operations); Color vision (e.g., identifying wire colors and indicator lights); Peripheral vision; Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
  • The employee is occasionally required to detect odors, such as smoke, gas, or burning materials, which may indicate safety hazards.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration from machinery such as saws, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, including sawdust, lubricants, fumes, and welding smoke.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, as well as high, precarious places including catwalks, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
  • The employee is also exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, when working in or around outdoor areas of the facility.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring the consistent use of hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated b company policy and OSHA Standards, which may include: Safety glasses or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats, and respiratory protection if necessary.
  • The employee will split his/her time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor.
