The Longleaf Forester will represent The Longleaf Alliance to external audiences in Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina, conduct outreach activities, deliver technical assistance, and advance other longleaf pine strategies on behalf of The Alliance and the Longleaf Cooperators of Virginia. Looking for a Procurement Forester with experience in buying hardwood logs and standing timber. Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years experience in the purchasing of standing timber. Must have a good understanding of logging and BMP's. 2 Year or 4 Year degree preferred but not required with sufficient experience. Job is based out of the mill in Oak Ridge, TN, but will spend most of the time on the road locally.  Job responsibilities include: Locating and acquiring standing timber tracts. Cruising timber and doing evaluations. Managing timber contracts. Hiring and supervising contract logging crews. Working with local independent loggers to purchase gatewood. The Land and Minerals Department is hiring two (2) summer interns. The primary focus of these internships will be to perform field forestry tasks including, but not limited to, tree planting inspections, regeneration checks, timber sale preparation and administration, marking pine plantations, native plant community classification, cabin lease inspections and other duties as assigned.
