The Forestry & Trails Maintenance Specialist will support the Montgomery County Landscaping Division through the daily maintenance, management and development of the Parks and Recreation trees and trails. Responsibilities include the development, implementation and oversite of trees and trails programs, including trail management, forest health management, erosion control, tree maintenance and removal, fuels reduction, vegetation removal, needs assessments, and the coordination of programs, initiatives and restoration projects to enhance County parks. Looking for a Procurement Forester with experience in buying hardwood logs and standing timber. Qualified candidates will have 3-5 years experience in the purchasing of standing timber. Must have a good understanding of logging and BMP's. 2 Year or 4 Year degree preferred but not required with sufficient experience. Job is based out of the mill in Oak Ridge, TN, but will spend most of the time on the road locally.  Job responsibilities include: Locating and acquiring standing timber tracts. Cruising timber and doing evaluations. Managing timber contracts. Hiring and supervising contract logging crews. Working with local independent loggers to purchase gatewood. Being backup scaler on yard as needed Job is full time with health insurance and 401k available. A company vehicle will be provided. Pay will be determined based on skill level and experience.  

The Land and Minerals Department is hiring two (2) summer interns. The primary focus of these internships will be to perform field forestry tasks including, but not limited to, tree planting inspections, regeneration checks, timber sale preparation and administration, marking pine plantations, native plant community classification, cabin lease inspections and other duties as assigned. Duties:   The Longleaf Forester is directly responsible for providing timely and science-based responses to requests for assistance through a variety of methods, including phone, email, question line or site visit. This professional also plays a key role in the support of landowner incentive programs, and in the delivery of the   Longleaf Academy   program, taking the lead where assigned on Academies, or providing high quality instruction in a supporting role.
